Cognac

The Remy Martin tour that we went on was a blast! We learned so much about how they make their fine cognac, from the grapes to the barrels and in fact 98% of their production is exported, with the USA and China being their largest customers. The best part had to be the tasting session, where we got to sample different varieties and ages of cognac. They were all delicious, but some were more potent than others. Think I had one too many, because by the end of the tour was speaking fluent French or at least I thought I was. The locals seemed amused by my attempts (which is probably why there are no pictures, that and copyright issues)…

Anyway, we highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves cognac and culture. Cheers!

Before walking into Cognac down the river Charente, we were treated to a rare sight. The sun had rainbow surrounding it. Amazing!

Here in the lovely Cognac area of France, where there’s more to see than just brandy. Did you know that this region has a rich history of art, culture and architecture? For example, there’s the Château de Cognac, where King Francis I was born in 1494. He was a great patron of the Renaissance and invited Leonardo da Vinci to France. There’s also the Romanesque Saint-Léger church, which dates back to the 12th century and has beautiful stained-glass windows. And of course, there’s the Cognac Museum, where you can learn all about how this famous drink is made and aged in oak barrels.
