Converting Our Campervan from a 3-Seater to a 2-Seater

Welcome back to our campervan conversion chronicles! This time, we embarked on the surprisingly hilarious adventure of converting our van from a 3-seater to a 2-seater. Buckle up (or not, in this case) and enjoy the ride!

The Big Decision

It all started with the realisation that our middle seat was more of an awkward nuisance than a helpful feature. So, we made the bold decision to remove it and create more space.

This is where eBay came in handy as the search began for a suitable replacement. Little did we know, this seemingly simple task would lead to a series of unexpected and comical events.

Preparation and Planning

Armed with a toolbox, a YouTube tutorial, and an overconfident DIY spirit, we began the process. Our initial plan was straightforward: unscrew a few bolts, lift out the seat, and voila—extra space! Easy, right? Oh, how naïve we were.

The Seat Removal Saga

The first challenge was finding all the bolts that held the seat in place. It felt like a game of hide-and-seek, with bolts tucked away in the most obscure places. After contorting ourselves into various yoga poses (none of which had names), we finally located and unscrewed them all after several herculean attempts to remove the bolts.

Then came the moment of truth: lifting the seat out. We soon discovered that this seat had apparently decided it liked its home and wasn’t leaving without a fight. It took a combination of brute force, strategic wiggling, and a few exasperated sighs before the seat finally budged. As it came loose, we cheered in triumph—until we realised we were now holding a seat that wouldn’t fit through the van door.

The Puzzle Game

Getting the seat out of the van turned into a real-life game of Tetris. We twisted, turned, and tilted it in every possible direction, trying to find the magic angle that would allow it to escape. At one point, we considered converting it into an impromptu coffee table, right there in the van. But after much laughter and a few near-misses, we finally managed to extract it.

The New 2-Seater Look

With the middle seat out, our van suddenly felt more spacious and open. We couldn’t help but do a little victory dance in the newfound space. The van’s interior now had a sleek, minimalist vibe—perfect for our upcoming adventures.

Reflections

Converting our campervan from a 3-seater to a 2-seater was a far more entertaining and challenging experience than we anticipated. The process involved a lot of laughs, a bit of frustration, and a true test of our teamwork skills. But in the end, the extra space made it all worthwhile.

So here’s to the joy of DIY projects, the unexpected hilarity of van life, and the many adventures that lie ahead in our newly spacious campervan. Happy travels and happy seating!
