It was the name of this location that caught our eye, so we just had to check it out. Saint Michel Chef Chef is a sleepy little coastal town in North Western France that is famous for its butter cookies, and Michel, is the patron saint of bakers. Now, we say sleepy, check out the distinct lack of people in the pictures.
We watched the life guard training on the beach with amazement, as this also included rescue dogs being put through their paces.
The coastal area here is also famous for its fishing huts that stand on stilts in the sea, from which a “carrelet” (a form of fishing net) hangs from long poles. These used to be made of chestnut wood and can be disassembled and caried away, called “bois debout” (upright wood).
One historical landmark in Saint Michel Chef Chef is the old windmill, which we managed to grab a picture from almost the same place as it was when it was operational. Check out the print from the local area.
