England la France 2023

Leaving Dover

Bon Voyage

Today is the day, the day we have been waiting for, the start of our tour of France in 2023.

As we had already positioned ourselves relatively close to the port of Dover, we opted for the more scenic route to drive to the port as this offered great views of the countryside and the sea. A 27-minute journey of just over 11 miles down the A20, according to Google, and this added to the excitement of the journey in front of us.

We chose to take the ferry from Dover to Calais as we thought this was a little more adventurous and would be fun to experience the high seas to enjoy the views of the coastline, even though just the thought of it makes Trish a little queasy. So, with sea sickness tablets in hand we boarded the ferry.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to cross the English Channel, why not also hop on a ferry from Dover to Calais? It’s only 25 miles (41 km) away and takes about 90 minutes to get there. There are three different ferry operators, but we opted for Irish Ferries for our trip, although they all offer comfortable and convenient services, with plenty of amenities on board. Where you can enjoy the scenic views of the coastlines, relax in the lounge, grab a bite to eat or do some duty-free shopping. Just don’t forget your passport and your sense of humour, because you never know what kind of jokes the French customs officers will crack before you arrive at Calais (yea right…)

The question is, where are we heading first?…
