Our good friend Derek told us that the ferry into Royan is a great way to enjoy the views of the Gironde estuary. So, we decided to board the ferry from Bac du Verdon-sur-Mer and cross to Bac Royan Pointe de Grave in about 20 minutes, instead of the long drive via Bordeaux. The ferry runs every hour from 6 am to 9 pm (although there is no way I’m getting up that early), and you can buy tickets online or at the terminal.
The ferry was comfortable and spacious with a sun deck. We simply turned up, drove on, relaxed on the sun deck, then drove off. Trish did not feel queasy once (picture here to prove it) and it was fun and a convenient option for us.
