Bergerac, a Gem on the Dordogne

One of the places on our list to visit was Bergerac, a delightful town in the Dordogne region of France, famous for its wine, history and culture. It’s also the home of Cyrano de Bergerac, who had a very big nose and a very big heart. If you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy some fine cuisine and explore the beautiful countryside, Bergerac is the perfect destination for you.

Our drive through the vineyards that surround the town were amazing, even the roundabouts were decorated with all things wine related, our favourite was an exploded view of a wine cask.

The Dordogne River is a long and winding waterway that flows through southwestern France. It has witnessed many historical events over the years, such as the Hundred Years’ War, the French Revolution, and the invention of foie gras. It is also home to many natural wonders, from caves to castles and of course… vineyards. The Dordogne River is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy canoeing, fishing, and sampling the local cuisine, or cycling like we did.

Bergerac is a lovely town that should be on your list of places to visit. The old town is very charming and picturesque, with half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. The town has a rich history and culture, dating back to the Middle Ages.

We were excited to visit the old town of Bergerac, where the famous detective Cyrano de Bergerac was born. We went to see his statue and see his long nose and was hoping to visit his house. But when we got there, we were disappointed to find out that he was not a real person, but a fictional character created by a French playwright Edmond Rostand (talk about being cheated).

So instead, we headed for lunch and a little glass of something. Cheers!
