Escape to Llanddwyn Bay: A Journey to Tranquillity
There’s something special about finding those perfect places where land meets sea in spectacular fashion. Llanddwyn Bay, nestled on the southwestern tip of Anglesey, is one such destination—offering unspoiled beauty, expansive golden sands, and a peaceful escape from the everyday. Taking our campervan there felt like unlocking a new level of freedom, a journey into a landscape that felt untouched, yet welcoming.
The Drive to Llanddwyn Bay
Setting off with anticipation, we navigated quiet Welsh roads lined with lush green fields, occasional glimpses of distant peaks, and the unmistakable scent of salty sea air growing stronger as we neared Anglesey’s coastline. Reaching Newborough Forest, the gateway to Llanddwyn Bay, was a highlight in itself—the towering pine trees standing guard as we made our way toward our stop.
Parking Up & Soaking in the Views
The designated parking area near Newborough Beach provided an ideal base before heading out to explore. The moment we stepped out, the vastness of the bay revealed itself—golden sands stretching endlessly, dunes rippling in the wind, and the distant sight of Llanddwyn Island calling us forward.
We spent time soaking in the tranquility, walking along the shoreline with the crisp waves gently rolling onto the sand. With the campervan nearby, the sense of having everything we needed while being surrounded by such natural beauty was truly special.
Exploring Llanddwyn Island
No visit to Llanddwyn Bay is complete without a walk across to Llanddwyn Island. Though technically a tidal island, it remains accessible for much of the day, offering a glimpse into history with its picturesque lighthouse and ruins of St. Dwynwen’s Church—the site dedicated to Wales’ patron saint of lovers.
Wandering along the island’s trails, we admired the rugged cliffs, playful seals bobbing offshore, and the deep sense of solitude that made it feel like another world.
