Adding overhead cupboards to our campervan was both a practical and entertaining journey. Here’s how we transformed our cosy camper with some handy storage solutions, sprinkled with a bit of humour along the way.
Starting with the ambitious idea of creating overhead storage to keep our campervan tidy. After some intense discussions (and a lot of coffee), we decided on the design. Armed with measurements, a sketch that Picasso would envy, and a hopeful spirit, we ventured to the local DIY store.
The Hardware Store Odyssey
Navigating the aisles of screws, brackets, and plywood felt like an epic quest. We debated the merits of various hinges as if our cupboard’s success depended on it. After filling our cart with essentials (and a few non-essentials because, why not?), we were ready for action.
Construction Comedy
Back at the van, the real fun began. Cutting plywood and assembling the frame with a mix of screws and wood glue, creating a sturdy structure. Attaching the frame to the ceiling involved a bit of contortionism and some creative language, but we managed without too many mishaps.
Finishing Flourish
With the cupboards hanging in situ the big discussion point centered around paint colour, but in the end we settled on a white wood grained vinyl wrap. After much trimming, sticking, chasing air bubbles out, they were complete. Just the doors remained.

Door Drama
The cupboard doors were a labour of love, they seemed to have a mind of their own during the hanging process. After some balancing on my head whilst screwing the hinges in place, they finally fit. The satisfaction of seeing those doors swing open smoothly was worth every effort.
With the doors in place, we added handles and interior shelves for extra functionality. A few finishing touches, and our campervan was now equipped with sleek, practical overhead cupboards. We stood back, admiring our handiwork and feeling proud of our accomplishment.

Conclusion
Building overhead cupboards in our campervan was a rewarding project filled with laughter and teamwork. It enhanced our living space and gave us a sense of achievement. Whether you’re a DIY novice or a seasoned pro, taking on a project like this can bring both practical benefits and memorable moments.
Happy travels and happy building!
