We were staying at Chateau des Tilleuls near Petit Port and cycled the eight plus kilometers by the River Somme, into Saint Valery sur Somme on the south bank of the River Somme estuary. The cycle way being arrow straight for all of the journey.
Saint Valery sur Somme has a rich history, being famous for being the place where William the Conqueror departed for England in 1066, and where Joan of Arc was imprisoned in 1430, centuries later only plaques mark these events. Today it’s a charming seaport and resort with its cobble stone streets and narrow roads (and some very nice ice cream).
